It’s that time of year again! Medicare Open Enrollment begins on October 15th and will end on December 7th.
Now is the time to raise your awareness about the aggressive and/or dishonest sales practices frequently used during this time.
In the article “5 Illegal Insurance Practices During Medicare Open Enrollment” written by Marlo Sollitto and published by Aging Care, the Medicare Rights Center has provided ways to help seniors and their representatives understand illegal and dishonest tactics, these tactics include the following:
Agents presenting themselves as Medicare employees
Marketing where health care is delivered or educational events
Free lunches or other monetary gifts
Other scams patients need to look out for include threats to loss of coverage or over-promising, fake rebates, and fake “official” marketing material.
CMS.gov has the Medicare Open Enrollment Period outreach & media materials, like the following videos, that will help educate enrollees and/or their representatives in figuring whether they need to join or update their insurance plans.
